Frequently Asked Questions

1

What is executive functioning coaching?

Executive functioning coaching is a personalized, goal-oriented service that helps individuals strengthen the skills needed to manage everyday life. These include organization, planning, time management, task initiation, working memory, emotional regulation, flexible thinking, and follow-through. Our coaching focuses on practical strategies that can be immediately applied at school, work, and home to build greater confidence and independence.

2

Who can benefit from Focus Forward?

Focus Forward serves children (grades 3 and up), teens, college students, and adults. While many clients have ADHD or executive functioning challenges, coaching is also beneficial for individuals who struggle with organization, procrastination, planning, time management, or balancing daily responsibilities—regardless of whether they have a formal diagnosis.

3

How is executive functioning coaching different from therapy?

Therapy often focuses on emotional well-being, mental health, and processing life experiences. Executive functioning coaching is educational and skill-based, helping clients develop practical systems, routines, and strategies to improve daily functioning. Many individuals benefit from both therapy and executive functioning coaching working together.

4

What happens during a coaching session?

Every coaching session is individualized to the client's unique goals and challenges. Coaches work collaboratively with clients to build practical systems, strengthen executive functioning skills, develop routines, solve current challenges, and create realistic plans that can be practiced between sessions.

5

How long is the program?

Focus Forward begins with a structured ten-week coaching program consisting of ten one-hour individualized coaching sessions. Because executive functioning skills continue to develop over time, many clients choose to continue coaching beyond the initial program to build upon their progress, navigate new life stages, and receive ongoing support as their goals evolve.

6

Can parents be involved?

Absolutely. In our Youth Program, parents participate in the first two coaching sessions to help establish goals, better understand executive functioning, and learn strategies that support success at home. As coaching progresses, children gradually build greater independence while parents remain informed and supported throughout the process.

7

Is Focus Forward only for children?

Not at all. Executive functioning skills impact every stage of life. Many adults seek coaching to improve productivity, organization, work performance, time management, life balance, and follow-through. Whether you're managing a busy household, navigating college, or advancing in your career, executive functioning coaching can help you create systems that work for you.

8

Do you accept referrals from therapists, physicians, schools, or other professionals?

Yes. We regularly collaborate with psychologists, therapists, physicians, schools, and other professionals who recognize that executive functioning coaching can provide valuable skill-building alongside their existing services. Coaching complements—not replaces—therapy or other clinical care, allowing clients to receive comprehensive support.

9

Is Focus Forward a Step Up for Students provider?

Yes! Focus Forward is an approved provider through Florida's Step Up for Students program, allowing eligible families to use scholarship funds toward executive functioning coaching services. If you have questions about eligibility or the reimbursement process, we're happy to help guide you.

10

How do I know if Focus Forward is the right fit?

If you or your child frequently struggle with organization, planning, managing time, completing tasks, staying focused, following through, or balancing daily responsibilities, executive functioning coaching may be an excellent fit. We encourage prospective clients and referral partners to contact us for a consultation so we can learn more about your goals and determine the best path forward.
